So this was the second year to teach hair design in Cambodia…..what an amazing experience! We had a combination of last years students with new students. We had planned on teaching 10 students and ended up with 30! One thing we have learned in third world countries is you HAVE to be flexible…so, we made it work.

We taught basic haircutting skills and even had a live model day! The beauty of teaching these skills to the people of Cambodia is….these people have no way to earn an income and are needing a trade. The students were so full of gratitude and felt so full of hope and  were able to see a future.

The most encouraging part was seeing our students from last year…..They have been actually cutting hair this entire year and getting paid for it!

Our staff represented Urban Eve and Redken at the crystal ballroom for the Sheckys event. It was a pre-party sponsored by Bacardi for ladies. It was a “ladies night out” for the who’s who in Houston. Our staff styled, consulted, and educated ladies on the best way to wear their hair for a night out! The girls handed out 400 retail size bottles of Redken Real Control Mineral Elixer. The event was a success!

One of our “star” staff members won a trip to the NYC Redken Exchange for continuing education in color. The Exchange is located on 5th Avenue and is the top education location in the world. Terianne learned the latest and greatest in color and all of the chemistry involved. She was inspired and came back to Urban Eve ready to create!

It’s hard to believe it is already time to start collecting supplies for our trip to cambodia. This trip is for sure one of the highlights of the year…..We have decided to accept 10 students for this years academy, so that we can focus and really have more one on one time with each student. The goal of our trip is to teach people who are interested in hair design and help give them a skill to bring them out of poverty. Teaching them gives a sense of hope and accomplishment….they begin to have dreams that they now have a trade to feed their families. This year we will also be teaching our last year students more detailed techniques and begin to build on what they learned last year.

This trip is what life is all about…..being a giver, not a taker. Life feels so complete and fulfilled when you give yourself and the talents you have away……

Now that Tara is on the floor….it was time for a new associate! Our newcomer is Candace and she is already fitting into our Urban Eve family. She will be an associate until January and then it will be her time to shine as an entry level stylist!

After being an associate for 7 months….Tara has earned her way onto the floor to be an entry level stylist!

Hey fellow Urban -eve’rs….. Jason and Jennifer are headed off to Kenya, Africa for 10 days. The goal is to help build a library, play with kids at Havilla orphanage, go on  a safari ( hopefully we can see some lions in action!)…..We are most excited about getting our life in perspective. Third world countries tend to do that to you

Our fearless leader, Shawnda, will be holding down the fort while we are away! It is so awesome to have a team that you really don’t have to worry even if you are half way around the world. Pictures will be coming soon!

Esther Lara, a photographer from West Columbia, has been taking pictures of our staff and fashion shows since Urban Eve began. We decided since we are stylists and our “look” changes so often…..we needed to update our pics! It’s so fun to work with people who can let loose and have a good time!

Hey all,

 This past weekend, the staff here at Urban Eve Had the pleasure of going on a staff retreat together. Some of you may have noticed we were closed on Monday, this was the reason. We really wanted to be able to bond outside of the high paced salon life.

 It’s funny how you can know people so well, but never really know who they really are. This was the mission of our retreat. We wanted to know who we all are outside of  the daily grind.  The location of the retreat was kept as a tightly guarded secret by Jason and Jennifer. No matter how much we begged, they never let on to where we were going. We ended up in a great isolated cabin out in the hill country.

 We had the best time bonding together. We got super competitive playing tether-ball, laughed by telling embarrassing stories over a homemade lasagna dinner, and bonded as a family over a campfire on a night lit by a full moon.

 I can’t wait to get all the pictures together from this trip to put up. I know you will have a chuckle or two at the memories shared.

 Be sure to come by the salon and boutique sometime soon and see the new things we have going on. We are always getting new things for the boutique. This summer is the perfect time to bring out your wild side with some animal print.  Also in for the season is hair accessories. We have a great selection of head bands, clips and more. Our new favorite item here is the Tarina Tarintino flower hair clips. They come in great festive colors with sparkling diamonds…..well maybe not diamonds, but swarovski crystals, either way they glitter!
