Currently working on: I am currently working on shapes. I have been really drawn to breaking out of my haircutting box. I have really been drawn to lines and shapes and how they could possibly translate into haircuts in a new way.
Loves: Free time for me is Family time first. There is nothing better than being married to your best friend and having the coolest kids on the planet. Secondly, I have a serious addiction to running. The farther the better. It's amazing how fast stress and creative blocks disappear when you outrun them.
Mantra: "To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift!" - Steve Prefontaine (my running hero)
Things that make me laugh: My family is hilarious, our staff is insane and my own mind even cracks me up. I can't escape funny. To me we have serious things happen every now and then just so our faces can rest.
Theme Song: "Where the streets have no name" - U2......and.....The Dukes of Hazzard theme song!
Places you want to visit: Ireland is a life must for me. Some other places...Morocco, Australia, Antarctica, Switzerland, Japan, Myanmar (formerly Burma), Normandy Beach, Tibet and London. My wife plans on filling up her passport with stamps before she dies, so naturally I will too.
Currently obsessed with: Qualifying for the Western States 100 Ultra Marathon in Auburn, California. A 100 mile foot race through the Sierra Nevada Mountain range with a 24 hour cutoff time. They give you this cool belt buckle with a cougar on it "IF" you finish. I plan on wearing that bad boy around the salon by 2009!

Q&A:
When did you know you wanted to do hair?
I knew I wanted to do hair after years of several other careers that didn't offer me the opportunity to be creative. The chance to own a salon and work along side my wife was the chance of a lifetime.
How would you describe your approach to doing hair color?
I love believable haircolor. My goal is for people to see my clients and wonder to themselves, "Is that her natural color?" The highest compliment is when people can't tell exactly what you have done, but know it is absolutely gorgeous.
What inspires your creativity?
Inspiration to me comes from everywhere. I find it in huge things and small. Sometimes it is in a current magazine, a song or in my kids. I have been inspired by brick patterns in buildings, mountain ranges and brush strokes in a painting I saw at the Met in NYC. I think the best inspiration comes from sources that I discount and then discover on a second look.
What advice would you give to someone considering coloring their hair for the first time?
Life is too short to wonder if... Step out and live a little. That doesn't mean do something that isn't flattering to your look and lifestyle. It just means find a stylist who cares about you enough to be honest and constructive. Then together create a look that brings out the possible best in you.
How do you customize a hair color service for each and every client?
I try to never duplicate color applications. I don't want to be typical and use my little tried and true color combinations. I find the best colors are the ones where I get out of my comfort zone and get creative with all of the shades that are available to me.
What celebrity always has great hair?
Meg Ryan. Always ahead of everyone else, and proving that with a little attitude you can work almost any haircut. I don't think I have ever seen a bad picture of her in my life.
What's your approach to returning hair color clients?
When I say I love natural looking hair I mean just that. Nature changes seasonally and so should we. The season says it's time for change and trends tell me what flavor the change will take on.
Describe your personal style:
My personal style is business laid-back. I lean more to the laid back though. I just like to be comfortable. However I do love my iron.
